There's going to have to be some changes on the horizon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, don't you think? After all, Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man can't always be at the forefront of the action as the MCU heads on into the future. The same can be said for Chris Evans' Captain America. At some point along the way, those who built the foundation for the MCU to exist are going to have to step aside and let new, fresher, less explored characters have their moments in the spotlight if the Marvel brand is going to keep expanding and flourishing.
The Russo brothers seem fully aware of that as they start building the groundwork for the two-part INFINITY WAR. In fact, they said as much during a Q&A over the weekend at Wizard World New Orleans when they were asked which smaller pieces in the MCU will become bigger pieces through Phase Three.
Everything is finite, right? Nothing can last forever. It's cyclical. Some New Avengers in Phase Four are going to become prominent and then maybe some Avengers might not be around anymore. So, we'll see how all this plays out but you have to treat every character with respect. I think it's interesting that if you've seen four or five movies with the lead character having an arc, I want to see some story telling from some of the secondary characters. We're focusing on that right now with INFINITY WAR while we're breaking into those movies, is which characters can we pull to the forefront who potentially haven't had their own 'A' story arc to this point. I think you'll see that the supporting Avengers are going to become primary Avengers.
Who's getting promoted as Thanos comes to town with the Infinity Gauntlet? Place your bets on the superhero being groomed for more responsibility. I'm guessing the Falcon. Your pick…
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR – PART 1 arrives in theaters on May 4, 2018, while PART 2 will conclude that particular battle on May 3, 2019.
