The Rookie will continue to stay on duty at ABC. It has been announced that the Nathan Fillion-led series has been renewed for a fifth season, per TVLine.
On The Rookie, “Starting over isn’t easy, especially for John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of joining the LAPD. As their oldest rookie, he’s met with skepticism from those who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.” The series hails from creator and executive producer Alexi Hawley and stars Nathan Fillion, Mekia Cox, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Melissa O’Neil Eric Winter, Jenna Dewan, and Shawn Ashmore.
In its current season, The Rookie opened with a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.8 million viewers and has remained fairly steady in demo throughout the season. Per ABC, The Rookie season 4 averages 10 million total viewers after 35 days of viewing across ABC’s linear and digital platforms, growing six times over its initial Live+Same Day rating among Adults 18-49 with a lift of +500% after 35 days of multiplatform viewing.
The renewal news comes less than two months after it was announced ABC will expand on the drama’s world with an FBI-focused spinoff starring Niecy Nash. The actress will be playing Simone Clark, an older-than-typical FBI rookie and the episode that introduces the spinoff will air this spring as a double-episode backdoor pilot.
