Like it or not, the JUMANJI remake is well on its way and a major player has entered the game! Earlier this year it was announced that Jake Kasdan (BAD TEACHER) would be directing from a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, and that the film would be released on July 28, 2017. Now we have one of the film's stars; Dwayne Johnson. Say what you will about the idea of the remake, but it certainly won't be lacking in charisma! Johnson confirmed the news earlier this morning, posting the following on his Instagram account.
It's OFFICIAL: Love this script! Big movie news that me and my canine gal Shang are excited to share;) To produce, create and deliver original properties to fans like HBO's #ballers to this summer's #CentralIntelligence is one of the best parts of my job. But to take great properties that are beloved worldwide like #BAYWATCH and #RAMPAGE and have the opportunity reimagine their stories in dope new ways to a whole new generation is truly an honor.
It's official. We'll produce and deliver to a whole new generation a title that I love and is one of my all time favs: There's games you play for fun…then there's games that change your life. JUMANJI Working on edging up an already very good script with my @sevenbucksprod team. Up next is meeting with our producer Matt Tolmach and director Jake Kasdan. Shooting starts this fall. Promise to deliver something cool and special.. and not screw the whole damn thing up;). As always I'll keep you posted. This is gonna be fun. #JUMANJI #JungleLife #JustPressStart #SONYPictures
So does this news do anything for your expectations of a JUMANJI reboot? Personally, I don't have any great love for the original. It was fun and a product of its time, but not exactly a classic. With that said, I'm down to see what these filmmakers can do with the premise. I have a feeling they will not be repeating the same old from the original, although if The Rock is any indication, we'll probably see a lot more action!
JUMANJI is scheduled to hit theaters on July 28, 2017.
