The Rig trailer: Emily Hampshire supernatural thriller series reaches Amazon in January

Amazon’s Prime Video has announced a January 6th premiere date for the supernatural thriller series The Rig, and along with that announcement comes the release of a trailer for the show! You can check it out in the embed above. John Strickland and Alex Holmes directed the six-part show (Strickland directed the first three episodes, Holmes directed the remaining three) from scripts by Meg Salter, Matthew Jacobs Morgan, and series creator David Macpherson.

The Rig is set on the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish coast in the dangerous waters of the North Sea. When the crew is due to return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through. The rig is hit by massive tremors, and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world. As the crew endeavor to discover what’s driving this unknown force, a major accident forces them to ask questions about who they can really trust. Bonds are broken, allegiances formed and generational fault lines are exposed. The crew of the Bravo will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance leading to a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination.

Emily Hampshire of Schitt’s Creek plays the co-lead Rose Mason, “the scientist and oil company rep, a fresh face on-board the rig”. She is joined in the cast by Iain Glen as the other lead character, Magnus MacMillan, “the offshore installation manager of the rig and leader of the crew”.

Also on board are Martin Compston as communications officer Fulmer Hamilton, Mark Bonnar as deck foreman Alwyn Evans, Rochenda Sandall as medic Cat Braithwaite, Owen Teale as head driller Lars Hutton, Richard Pepple as crew boss Grant Dunlin, Calvin Demba as drill hand Baz Roberts, Emun Elliott as rig mechanic Leck Longman, Abraham Popoola as rig crane driver Easter Ayodeji, Stuart McQuarrie as head chef Colin Murchison, Molly Vevers as roustabout Heather Shaw, Cameron Fulton as rig worker Garrow, Nikhil Parmar as rig worker Harish, and Mark Addy as David Coake, “head of Pictor Energy’s Research & Expansion Division, who knows more than most about the real danger the crew faces…”

The Rig was produced by Wild Mercury Productions. Strickland executive produced the show with Derek Wax. Suzanne Reid serves as producer.
