Three years have passed since it was announced that stuntman and short filmmaker BJ Verot was making his feature directorial debut with the sci-fi horror film The Return, and in just one week we'll finally have the chance to see how the project turned out, as Uncork'd Entertainment will be giving The Return a digital and on demand release on August 10th. In anticipation of the release, a trailer for the film has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above.
Starring Richard Harmon (The 100), Sara Thompson (I Still See You), Echo Andersson (Cheerleader Death Squad), Marina Stephenson-Kerr (Cult of Chucky), Zoe Fish (The Grudge 2020), Erik Athavale (Nikola Tesla and the End of the World), and Gwendolyn Collins (Channel Zero), The Return has the following synopsis:
Rodger returns home from college with two friends to settle the affairs of his recently deceased father. They begin to experience weird and unsettling occurrences in the house. Rodger is soon plagued by strange childhood memories about a haunting by a ghostly presence. These memories boil over into reality culminating in an intense showdown with the terror that has come back.
Verot told Dead Entertainment a while back that
The Return starts as classic haunted house film, and as it progresses, the science fiction edge starts to bleed through. We wanted to take the haunting sub-genre, and turn it on its ear. I'm so excited for people to see it. The team behind the project was amazing, and I'm proud of what we were able to create together."
It sounds like Verot and his collaborators took an interesting approach to the idea. Does The Return look like a movie you'd like to watch later this month? Let us know by leaving a comment below.
