The Requin trailer leaves a couple stranded in the ocean and surrounded by sharks

Lionsgate, Saban Films, and 828 Media Capital invite you to get back in the water with The Requin trailer. Directed and written by Le-Van Kiet (Gentle, Hai Phuong), The Requin stars Alicia Silverstone (Clueless, Batman & Robin) and James Tupper (Joe Dirt, Big Little Lies) as a couple on a romantic getaway who find themselves stranded at sea when a tropical storm sweeps away their villa. To survive, they are forced to fight the elements, while sharks circle below.

As far as “stranded with sharks” movies go, The Requin trailer has Kiet’s film looking like an intense battle for survival against the elements. It’s been a dog’s age since I’ve seen Silverstone in anything where she wasn’t lusting over her stepbrother or patrolling the streets of Gotham City alongside Batman and Robin. She’s appeared in countless films and television shows since that time. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see her front and center for a thriller that will have you wondering whether or not it’s safe to get back in the water.

Silverstone recently spoke with SlashFilm about the intense filming process for The Requin. When asked about how she prepared to star in a movie where she acts against herself, Silverstone revealed the following:

“I think it’s such an interesting story and I was so excited to be a part of it. Le-Van Kiet is a director that I really admire. I saw two of his films and I really thought they were beautifully done. And he captures women in such an interesting way, his style. He says he has no style, but I see a very clear style in his films that I have seen. So I was just there, ready to just dive into this ocean and be completely at his mercy, really. That’s what I was there to do. And so I was so turned on and inspired by it all and being alone, it didn’t matter, really it was about the circumstances. This character had lost her baby at birth, so she’s really struggling, she’s trying to recover. And she has PTSD and her marriage is falling apart, so they’ve come here to try and fight for their marriage and what they end up doing is fighting for their lives. I don’t know, it was really exciting.”

What do you make of The Requin trailer? Will you be getting into the water when Kiet’s film swims into limited theaters and VOD platforms on January 28, 2022?
