The Requin trailer: Alicia Silverstone stars in shark thriller with January release date

Nine months ago, we saw a first look image from writer/director Le-Van Kiet’s The Requin, a shark thriller starring Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) and James Tupper (Men in Trees). Now we finally know when we’re going to have the chance to watch this movie: Saban Films is planning a January 28 theatrical, On Demand, and digital release for The Requin. Along with that release information comes the unveiling of the film’s trailer, which you can check out in the embed above.

The Requin has the following synopsis:

There’s terror in paradise when Jaelyn (Alicia Silverstone) and Kyle (James Tupper) arrive at a remote seaside villa in Vietnam for a romantic getaway. A torrential storm descends, reducing the villa to little more than a raft and sweeping the young couple out to sea. Suddenly, another danger appears: a school of great white sharks. With her injured husband watching helplessly, Jaelyn must battle the deadly predators alone in this tense thriller that rides an unrelenting wave of fear.

Although the story is set in Vietnam, The Requin was filmed at Universal Studios in Orlando. Ashleigh Snead, Aaron Koontz, and Cameron Burns of Paperstreet Pictures managed the production, while 828 Media Capital provided the funding. The film was produced by Ellen Wander and Jordan Dykstra of Film Bridge International.

Although a lot of shark thrillers aren’t very good, I keep checking them out in hopes that I’ll find another one that actually is good. Occasionally there is a gem, and hopefully The Requin will be one of those. If not, well, I’ll just keep moving on to the next shark thriller. These days there’s never a long wait between them.
