A year and a half ago, we learned that Andrew Traucki was going to be writing and directing The Reef: Stalked, a sequel to his 2010 shark thriller The Reef, which you can watch at THIS LINK. Now it has been announced that RLJE Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, and AMC’s streaming service Shudder are teaming up to give The Reef: Stalked a theatrical, digital, VOD, and streaming release in North America on July 29th.
The Reef: Stalked has the following synopsis:
In an effort to heal after witnessing her sister’s horrific murder, Nic, her sister Annie and two close friends travel to a remote Pacific island for a kayaking and diving adventure. Only hours into their expedition, the women are stalked and then attacked by a massive Great White Shark. To survive the women will need to band together, and Nic will have to overcome her post-traumatic stress, face her fears and slay a monster.
The film stars Teressa Liane (The Vampire Diaries), Ann Truong (Cowboy Bebop), Saskia Archer (Boshack), Kate Lister (Clickbait), and Tim Ross (Wonderland). It was produced by Neal Kingston, Michael Robertson, Jack Christian, and Traucki.
RLJE’s Mark Ward had this to say about releasing The Reef: Stalked:
Audiences have an insatiable appetite for shark films, which we know first-hand from our incredible experience releasing The Reef years ago. We are thrilled to be working with the team again to bring this new terrifying adventure to audiences.”
This is the second time Traucki has sequelized one of his own “nature run amok” creature features. He made his feature directorial debut (alongside David Nerlich) on the crocodile thriller Black Water, and in 2020 he directed a sequel to that film, titled Black Water: Abyss.
