The Red Triangle: new shark thriller coming from 47 Meters Down director Johannes Roberts

Director Johannes Roberts’ shark thriller 47 Meters Down was almost a straight-to-video release, but when it went theatrical instead it turned out to be a surprise hit, pulling in over $62 million at the global box office. So Roberts made a sequel, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged, which earned almost $47 million worldwide. And now Deadline reports that Roberts is set to direct another shark thriller… but this one isn’t another 47 Meters Down sequel. The next shark movie we’ll be getting from Roberts is called The Red Triangle.

Described as a “big-budget theatrical feature” from Allen Media Group Motion Pictures, The Red Triangle will be set in Northern California — famous for its gorgeous beaches, but also known for a particular stretch of ocean that has a bloody reputation — The Red Triangle. Stretching south from Bodega Bay toward San Francisco and jutting out beyond the Farallon Islands and down to Big Sur south of Monterey, the Triangle encompasses around 200 miles of coastline, and is the site of almost half of all recorded great white shark attacks in the United States. When a cruise ship — a massive, floating, fully stocked resort with thousands of passengers — begins to sink in The Red Triangle, the feeding frenzy begins.

Sharks attacking passengers of a sinking ship… sounds like an update of the horrific true story Quint told in Jaws.

Roberts has written the screenplay for The Red Triangle. Tea Shop Productions’ James Harris and Mark Lane are producing the film, while Allen Media Group Motion Pictures founder Byron Allen serves as executive producer alongside Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas, Chris Charalambous, and Matthew Signer.

Allen provided the following statement: “The Red Triangle is well-positioned to be a big summer event movie. This shark-filled psychological horror/thriller will once again have moviegoers overwhelmed and on the edge of their seats watching great white sharks methodically terrorize a sinking family cruise ship.“

Roberts added: “The Red Triangle is going to take shark horror to a whole new level. I cannot wait to work with Byron again to terrify audiences like they’ve never been terrified before.“
