Well, it looks like not only is THE PURGE 4 happening, but today we have word that the series will – for the very first time – sport a director other than series creator James DeMonaco.
Turns out Gerard McMurray will be taking on the next annual Purge, and if you're not familiar with the name, no worries, the guy is pretty new on the scene.
His film BURNING SANDS made a splash at Sundance and I guess there was enough violence and mayhem in that flick to suggest he could handle… more violence and mayhem. BURNING SANDS was McMurray's feature debut and involved "extreme hazing." The flick was nominated for the grand jury prize at Sundance and was soon after picked up by Netflix.
DeMonaco will still be involved with the new flick and will even be the one writing the script, so no worries if you are, like, a DeMonaco fanboy or something. While plot details are being kept under tight wraps at the moment, DeMarco did share some kind words on his replacement as director of the franchise:
I have not seen a film as confidently directed in a long time as Burning Sands and I'm excited to see Gerard's own expression of The Purge world.
DeMarco is no doubt busy working on that PURGE TV series we told you guys about a few weeks/months ago and I guess this is as good a time as any to ask; are you more excited for a PURGE 4 or a PURGE TV series? Let us know on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram.
THE PURGE 4 is currently set for release on July 4, 2018.
