The Purge 2 confirmed; James DeMonaco returning to write and direct sequel

We've known for a while that a sequel to James DeMonaco's hit THE PURGE was in development with Blumhouse confirming that a follow-up to the global hit was in the works back in June, and today we have learned that DeMonaco is set to return as writer and director for the sequel.

According to Variety, DeMonaco has signed on to to write and direct the sequel to his hit film THE PURGE for Universal and Blumhouse. Jason Blum of Blumhouse will produce through his first-look deal with Universal. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes and Sebastien Lemercier are also returning to produce.

Production Weekly has also verified that DeMonaco, Blum and Bay have reunited for the film, sending out the following tweet that shares that the film, apparently titled THE ZONE, will begin shooting next month.
