I haven't managed to watch the thirteen episode first season of the Marvel / Netflix series The Punisher yet, but I did catch up on the second season of the Daredevil series, where this version of The Punisher made his debut, and I was very pleased with how the character came off there. Jon Bernthal did a hell of a job in the role, and I look forward to spending thirteen more hours watching him.
There's going to be more than thirteen hours when all is said and done, though. It has been announced, on the official The Punisher Twitter account, that Netflix has ordered a second season of the show.
There was no hint given of when the second season might reach the streaming service, but Netflix didn't even announce the release date for the first season until it was only a month away.
Starring Bernthal as Frank Castle / The Punisher, the first season had the following synopsis:
After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.
Also in the cast were Deborah Ann Woll, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Ben Barnes, Amber Rose Revah, Michael Nathanson, Jaime Ray Newman, Jason R. Moore, Daniel Webber, and Paul Schulze.
We'll be keeping track of The Punisher season two as it comes together.
