The plot and title of Captain America 3 has been in place for 10 years

For those of you who doubt that Marvel has a master plan, I pity you. While I may not like every film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I admire and respect the vision being carried out by Kevin Feige. It is no small feat to coordinate multiple directors, crews, screenwriters, producers, and massive Hollywood casts in an interconnected network of films. The ten films released so far have proven Marvel is the most viable franchise out there and AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is bound to break all of those records.

With CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER taking the quality of the films to a new level, the already announced CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 has some large shoes to fill, but it looks like this is one film that has been coming for a long, long time. In an interview with Crave Online, CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 co-director Joe Russo says we will soon learn the title of the trilogy capper in the series and it is something a long time coming.

“If you’ve been talking to [Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige], the title has been in place probably for ten years in his brain. It’s all part of the road map that he’s laid out, and it’s all part of the bigger plan.”

Russo went on to say that while the main plot, tone and villains in CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 are up to the directors and screenwriters, the overall scope of what will happen in the film is already set.

“The big thing we knew we had to deal with in CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER was the fall of HYDRA. Similarly there is a very, very big idea at the center of CAPTAIN AMERICA 3…[something that] alters the universe as a whole in some way.”

While ten years is a good indicator of when this idea for CAPTAIN AMERICA 3’s title could fall in line with events in the comics, we have no way of knowing from what era this story will unfold. Roughly a decade back would put us at the debut of Marvel’s Civil War arc that divided factions of superheroes, specifically Iron Man and Captain America, and culminated with the death of Steve Rogers. It would be a hugely bold move to send the character off on the big screen in that way but it would fit with the already announced plan for Chris Evans to retire from acting after he finishes his contract. Plus, we know Sebastian Stan has a multi-picture deal which would fit with him taking over the Captain America shield.

It is too early to say, but I would assume once the title for CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is announced, we will have a lot more to discuss. CAPTAIN AMERICA 3 is slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
