Two Saturday Night Live legends, Pete Davidson and Eddie Murphy, are joining forces for The Pickup, an upcoming comedy directed by Tim Story (Fantastic Four, Barbershop, Taxi). The project hails from Amazon MGM Studios, with plot details remaining a mystery. Smoke on the street says The Pickup is a heist comedy with a script by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows.
In addition to his directorial duties, Story produces through his The Story Company banner, with Davis Entertainment’s John Davis and John Fox, and Murphy and Charisse Hewitt-Webster via Eddie Murphy Productions. The Story Company’s Vicky Mara Story, Davis Entertainment’s Jeremy Stein, and Kevin Burrows, Ross Fanger, and Matt Mider executive produce.
When he’s not the subject of paparazzi fodder or changing dating partners like fresh pairs of underwear, Davidson appears in films like Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, Fast X, Dumb Money, and Good Burger 2. He recently completed his role for The Home. James DeMonaco (The Purge: Anarchy, The Purge: Election Year, The First Purge) directs from a script he co-wrote with Adam Cantor (The Kill Point, The Purge: Election Year). The Home follows Max (Davidson), who realizes that the residents and caretakers in the retirement home he started working at hide sinister secrets.
As for Murphy, his holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane is streaming on Prime Video. In the film, Chris Carver is determined to win the neighborhood’s annual Christmas decorating contest. He makes a pact with an elf to help him win–and the elf casts a spell that brings the 12 days of Christmas to life, which brings unexpected chaos to town. Additionally, the trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is online, bringing Murphy back to the cop comedy franchise that helped make him a Hollywood star.
The official synopsis reads: “After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.” The film also stars Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Kevin Bacon. Mark Molloy directed the Beverly Hills Cop sequel from a screenplay by Will Beall and Tom Gormican & Kevin Etten.
