Universal to remake Nicole Kidman’s spooky haunted house thriller The Others

The Others, remake, Nicole Kidman

I love a good haunted house movie, and one of my favourites is Alejandro Amenabar's THE OTHERS, which starred Nicole Kidman as a woman who lives in her darkened old family house with her two photosensitive children becomes convinced that the home is haunted. It's a damn spooky film that still holds up today, so naturally, it's getting the remake treatment.

Deadline has reported that Universal Pictures and Sentient Entertainment have partnered to produce a remake of THE OTHERS and are currently in development on the film. There are few details about the remake at this time, including just how much they'll take from the original storyline, but insiders told Deadline that studio executives are meeting with writers to adapt the script right now. I would hope that Universal and Sentient choose to take THE OTHERS in a new direction, because a straight-up remake of a film that already works isn't something any of else needs. What are some of your favourite haunted house movies?

Speaking of hauntings, if you're looking for something new to watch in that genre, The Haunting of Bly Manor debuted on Netflix last week. The follow-up to Mike Flanagan's The Haunting of Hill House has already received largely positive reviews, with our own Alex Maidy saying that the series is a "reinvention of Henry James' The Turn of the Screw that is full of scares and spirits but also a powerful and emotional look at love and loss." You can check out the rest of Maidy's review right here.
