SPOILERS AHEAD
[REC] fans, do we have a treat for you. The official teaser for [REC] 4: APOCALYPSE has finally dropped and boy does it look familiar. Really, really familiar. So familiar that one could say it’s just comprised strictly of footage from the first two [REC] movies.
Though my Spanish is a bit rusty and my knowledge of the [REC] series isn’t particularly vast, it’s easy to see that the [REC] 4: APOCALYPSE trailer is little more than a reader’s digest version of the first two films (complete with the ending of part 2). This, of course, highlights the fact the fourth film will pick up where those movies left off (ignoring the stand-alone story of [REC] 3). Still, the trailer begs the question– who releases an official trailer without any footage from the actual movie? Are the makers of [REC] 4 still trying to raise money (like they did with their Sitges promotional preview)? Has the flick even started shooting? What the hell is going on?
[REC] 4 will see the original film’s co-director, Jaume Balagueró, step behind the camera once again (he sat out for Paco Plaza’s [REC] 3). Manuela Velasco is expected to return for the sequel, which will not to be shot in a found footage style. Check out the trailer below for a quick rundown of the events of the first two films and read the synopsis to find out what’s really in store for [REC] 4.
Angela Vidal, the young television reporter who entered the building with the fireman, manages to make it out alive. But what the soldiers don’t know is that she carries the seed of the strange infection.
She is to be taken to a provisional quarantine facility, a high-security installation where she will have to stay in isolation for several days. An old oil tanker, miles off shore and surrounded by water on all sides, has been especially equipped for the quarantine.
