While some unfortunate souls are still hard at work breaking down the installations of San Diego Comic-Con, STAR TREK fans have been given a reason to rejoice, as the Official Star Trek Convention set to be held in Las Vegas has just announced their lineup of guests and planned events. The celebration that invites fans to live long and prosper will take place from August 1-5 at The Rio Suites Hotel.
As part of the lead up to the annual interstellar shindig, Creation Entertainment has released a list of festivities set to go down at this year's geeky gala.
– Here's a preview of what you can expect from this year's show:
– Panels, presentations, guests, and a costume and prop exhibit all spotlighting the latest Star Trek television series, Star Trek: Discovery on CBS All Access.
– Stage appearances by several of the Star Trek captains, including William Shatner (Captain Kirk from Star Trek: The Original Series, Saturday only); Jason Isaacs (Captain Lorca from Star Trek: Discovery, appearance day TBD); and Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway from Star Trek: Voyager, Saturday only).
– A salute to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on in its 25th anniversary. This includes a mini-reunion with Chase Masterson (Leeta), Max Grodenchik (Rom) and Aron Eisenberg (Nog), a screening of the fan-favorite Deep Space Nine episode “Far Beyond the Stars” followed by a panel with the cast members from the episode, and a look at the upcoming Star Trek: Deep Space Nine documentary What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with the Co-Directors Dave Zappone and Ira Steven Behr.
A whole fleet of other celebrities will also be on deck for the event, including Star Trek’s George Takei (Sulu, Saturday and Sunday); Nichelle Nichols (Uhura, Wednesday – Friday); Walter Koenig (Chekov, Friday only); Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine in Star Trek: Voyager, Thursday only); Brent Spiner (Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, Wednesday and Thursday); Rainn Wilson (Harry Mudd from Star Trek: Discovery, day TBA); Michael Welch (Artim from Star Trek: Insurrection, on Wednesday); and more.
If waiting on lines to hobnob with Star Trek cast members isn't your bag, there are plenty of other activities planned throughout the con, including behind-the-scenes presentations, cosplay and trivia contests, auctions for unique collectibles and one-of-a-kind items, as well as a fan-made music video presentation. If you beam in to the exhibit hall, you'll discover that several major companies and vendors will be selling and displaying Star Trek and sci-fi collectibles. Don't forget to bring your wallet.
For those of you who enjoy the saucy nightlife of the Star Trek scene, you'll be pleased to know that several Star Trek themed parties are being planned. Here's a taste of what's to come from the official Star Trek Convention website:
The fabulous Nevada Pops Orchestra are returning to headline the Saturday Evening Gala Celebration taking place in our main theatre. It’s an incredible honor to welcome back Maestro Richard McGee (who adds his special introductions being a huge fan of Star Trek himself) and 45 talented members of the Nevada Pops Orchestra to our Vegas celebration and you get to keep your same GOLD PACKAGE, CAPTAIN’S CHAIR or COPPER Package Seats that you had during the day. If you are not coming to the convention with one of these packages you can also purchase this event as a non-reserved seat, general admission, on its own for only $50 by clicking the ticket icon. This year promises to be extra special with new and wonderful selections never heard before at the Convention!
We are proud to present three special guest conductors: Michael Giacchino, leading the orchestra performing his “Star Trek Into Darkness, and Beyond Suite,” Jeff Russo, conducting the world premiere orchestral performance of his score for “Star Trek: Discovery,” and Dennis McCarthy, conducting “The Deep Space Nine Suite.” This will surely be a night to remember!
Be sure to don your Star Trek best on Saturday, because that's when the costume competition is taking place. Celebrity judges will be on hand to vote on your efforts, as well as offer some insight into the world of Star Trek fashion. To that end, the show will also host a series on on-stage costume panels, the fan-favorite Costume Parade, and much more. For those of you worried about costume damage, fear not, because Garak’s Tailor and Repair will be available to help anyone in need with cosplay repair and beyond.
To find out more details about the above listed events and much more, be sure to visit the Creation Entertainment website for details about how you can be a part of the action. Entry for the show starts at $50 for a single day, with packages available for exclusive access to certain events.
Have fun!
