The Spice is Life! After debuting the first official image for Denis Villeneuve's DUNE early Monday morning, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. have revealed the highly-anticipated film's shiny new logo. Otherworldly and somewhat web-like in its design, I happen to think that the new logo is positively gorgeous, and it's making me even more excited for when Villeneuve's version of the Frank Herbert sci-fi classic wanders into theaters.
While numerous 2020 productions have been delayed, DUNE is still on track for a December 18 release. The film follows the son of a noble family entrusted with the protection of the most valuable asset and most vital element in the galaxy. The movie stars Timothée Chalamet as the lead character, with Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Oscar Isaac and Stellan Skarsgård also joining the fray.
According to the official synopsis, Villeneuve's DUNE "tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people."
Based on the acclaimed novel by Frank Herbert, DUNE was previously adapted by David Lynch in a cult classic that didn't quite match the scope and grandeur fans anticipated. With six novels by Herbert and more than twelve by his son Brian and co-writer Kevin J. Anderson, DUNE is the sci-fi equivalent of Game of Thrones with warring houses battling for galactic dominance.
SYFY previously adapted three of Herbert's novels into two mini-series that were fairly well received, but fans have long awaited a studio-backed epic with a budget to match the scope of STAR WARS or anything from Marvel Studios.
Showing his prowess with BLADE RUNNER 2049, we have been desparate for a look at what Villeneuve was bringing to the DUNE universe and this logo nicely compliments the aesthetic from the Chalamet photo earlier today.
