The Nun 2 setting is reportedly during 1956; filming will take place in France

Four years after the Conjuring Universe entry The Nun (which you can get HERE), earned $365 million at the global box office on a budget of $22 million, The Nun 2 is finally ready to go into production. Last week, producer James Wan confirmed that the film is moving forward with Bonnie Aarons reprising the role of the demonic nun and Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) on board to direct. Now the casting website Cast It Talent has given away the fact that The Nun 2 will be filming in France from September through December – and they even have a plot synopsis!

1956 – France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit THE NUN follows SISTER IRENE as she once again comes face to face with the demonic force VALAK – THE DEMON NUN

The Nun was set in Romania in 1952, so the same amount of time will have passed in the story as have passed in real life since the first movie was released. Taissa Farmiga played Sister Irene in the first movie. It hasn’t yet been confirmed that Farmiga will be back for The Nun 2, but she was recently contacted about it. She said she has heard

whisperings and talks (about The Nun 2) … I heard mentions of it back in the fall, maybe, and there were talks of potentially trying to see what my availability was. But I also haven’t seen a script. So I haven’t heard anything definitive or anyone say, “Hey, this is going.” So I don’t know, but I would love to go back and visit Sister Irene. It’s been years.”

Cast It Talent is looking to fill the following roles:

SOPHIE (10-12 years old) – Open Call
Character identifies as she/her, Caucasian. A shy, sweet 10-year-old student at St. Mary’s School, in France. Sophie’s sister MARCELLA, a more true mother figure, is a teacher at the school. Sophie is often tormented into tears by a group of mean girls. She forms a friendship with FRENCHIE, who works on the school grounds. He is seemingly Sophie’s only ally, apart from her sister. She can just about cope with the bullies at school… until she also becomes haunted by mysterious demons. We are looking for a child with a deep emotional intelligence and the ability to convey strong emotions. A light French Accent is required for the audition. LEAD ROLE.

ANTOINETTE (14-16 years old) – Open Call
Character identifies as she/her, Caucasian. A confident 14-year-old leader of a clique of burgeoning mean girls at St. Mary’s School, in France. Together with her friends, she torments the young SOPHIE and plays pranks on others at the school. A light French Accent is required for the audition. SUPPORTING ROLE.

Three years ago, Conjuring Universe producer Peter Safran said they had a “really fun storyline” for The Nun 2, which Akeela Cooper (Malignant) had been hired to write.
