With ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY now grossing over a billion dollars worldwide, I think it's safe to say that Disney and Lucasfilm's spin-off experiment has been a success. Audiences obviously have an appetite for movies which don't deal directly with the Skywalker clan and the studio is now in the process of mapping out just where these spin-off's will go following ROGUE ONE and the upcoming UNTITLED HAN SOLO STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY FILM.
While speaking with MTV, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said that an official announcement of what the next spin-off film will be is hopefully on the way.
I think we’re getting close. My hope would be sometime around the summer. I never want to predict the creative process because it is its own thing, so we’re in the midst of those discussions right now.
It's not yet known which character or era this next spin-off will revolve around, but before he departed the project, it was said that Josh Trank's STAR WARS spin-off would have focused on Boba Fett himself. In a report by Entertainment Weekly last November, the Boba Fett project apparently came incredibly close to being officially announced, with Lucasfilm even prepping a teaser reel to show off at Star Wars Celebration 2015. The split with Josh Trank put those plans on hold and the nature of Lucasfilm's next spin-off is unknown, but I'd be shocked if Boba Fett didn't make an appearance at some point in one of these projects.
What are your hopes for the next STAR WARS spin-off film and which characters or eras do you hope will be explored in future movies?
