Four months ago, we got the first trailer for HITMAN: AGENT 47 which looked like a cut-rate action movie right out of Luc Besson's wheelhouse. Rupert Friend, cast to replace the late Paul Walker, seemed like an odd choice for the lead role in what appeared to have little connection to the video game that inspired it. While the first film with Timothy Olyphant was no masterpiece, HITMAN: AGENT 47 looked forgettable.
A new trailer has been released and I have to say that I am actually now interested in seeing HITMAN: AGENT 47. With a lot more plot development, the new trailer actually seems like it has a bit of an intriguing story behind it along with the introduction of Hannah Ware as a female Agent.
HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research – and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.
Make no mistake, I do not think HITMAN: AGENT 47 is going to be a masterpiece. But, from this new trailer, it looks like it could be a fun summer action diversion along the lines of last year's LUCY. I cannot get over how non-threatening Rupert Friend sounds, but the action choreography looks solid. Plus, Zachary Quinto makes a pretty good bad guy.
There is also a new contest being run via Facebook to try and locate Agents 1 through 46. Take your picture as a Hitman and submit it to try and win cool prizes including a customized dossier and a chance to see an advance screening of the film.
HITMAN: AGENT 47 opens on August 28th.
