The latest trailer for James Franco’s adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel CHILD OF GOD has landed. If you’re looking for a bold adaptation of the great authors work, look no further than what James Franco has pulled off here. When he wasn't goofing around appearing in his friends movies (although we all appreciate that), Franco was able to become something of an art house director with CHILD OF GOD being his latest and perhaps riskiest effort yet.
Here’s the synopsis for CHILD OF GOD:
Lester Ballad (Scott Haze), a dispossessed, violent man who tries to exist outside of the social order. Deprived of parents and housing, his loneliness and despair relegates him to the level of a cave dweller and he falls deeper into crime and degradation in a small town at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee in the 1960s.
McCarthy's work is never easy to put on screen; in order to get a pure adaptation you're likely going to sacrifice mainstream attention and big box office numbers. The raw, violent, and unconventional ideas put forth in a lot of his writings are not for everyone; but if you’re like me and love to be challenged with grim movies such as this, definitely continue to support them.
Scott Haze looks to give a career changing performance here; it’s just chilling to watch. He sort of reminds me of Sam Rockwell’s character from THE GREEN MILE, Wild Bill – but add on a few lifetimes of shame and misery. This is not your basic thriller; let’s keep our eyes out for this one.
CHILD OF GOD gets a limited release on August 1, 2014
