In March of this year Judd Apatow gave us the last update with regards to the upcoming resurrection of Pee-wee Herman and a new feature film. In short, Apatow said “we're pretty close to getting that going”, which left us waiting again of course. Now Pee-wee himself, Paul Reubens is claiming that we should here about the new movie very soon. He gave an extensive interview to Rolling Stone talking about the new remastered Blu-ray set for Pee-wee’s Playhouse and says that an announcement about a new Pee-wee movie is “very imminent.”
“There’s going to be a big announcement any minute now. Yes. It’s been months and months of being right on the verge of being announced…I thought something was going to go public yesterday, actually, and that you’d be the first person I’d be talking about this with. But I’m thinking there will be something made public very soon. It’s going to get made shortly after the new year. I wish I could tell you about it right now, because…I mean, it’s amazing. It’s going to be amazing. It think it first got leaked four years ago or so that the movie was going to be made, and ever since then it’s just been stalling and stalling. So I’m really ready for this to happen. But I’m not kidding: It’s very imminent.”
It's unlikely that Tim Burton will be anywhere near this thing, but how awesome would that be? My only hope is it is closer in comparison to PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE rather than the dreaded BIG TOP PEE-WEE. All parties involved sound very optimistic and happy to be working on this project; let’s hope that shows onscreen when all is said and done.
Are you a Pee-wee fan? Have you been waiting patiently for this movie too?
