The New Mutants heavily inspired by Dream Warriors

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Director Josh Boone's X-MEN horror movie THE NEW MUTANTS was supposed to hit the big screen back on April 13, 2018. Then it was delayed a whopping 10 months to February 22, 2019, before Fox eventually pushed the film back another six months to an August 2, 2019 release date.

But now we know that Disney will unleash Boone's original director's cut of the flick – without reshoots – this April. And today we have word from Boone himself that the film was inspired by THE SHINING and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS.

Boone says:

I’d say the biggest influences for this movie were [One Flew Over the] Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining and Dream Warriors. I do love Dream Warriors, I loved the first [Nightmare on Elm Street] as well, but this is very much a rubber reality horror movie for the first about 75% of the movie and then it becomes something else. It follows the logic of those early Wes Craven movies and all that.

Sounds good to me! Go ahead and give the film's new trailer a look-see up top and let us know what you think!
