Director Josh Boone's X-MEN horror movie THE NEW MUTANTS was supposed to hit the big screen back on April 13, 2018. Then it was delayed a whopping 10 months to February 22, 2019, before Fox eventually pushed THE NEW MUTANTS back another six months to its current August 2, 2019 release date. The reason for all the release date shuffles is said to be due to the X-MEN horror movie undergoing extensive reshoots, partly to add another character into the mix. And today we have word that the movie – as hard as it may be to believe – hasn't even begun planning these reshoots.
I swear this news makes me feel like a parent who told their kid to clean its room and then goes back an hour later and finds that nothing has been touched. It's like, "You haven't even STARTED yet?!?!"
The reason for this new delay and whatnot seems to be because getting the cast back for the extensive amount of reshoots is a major issue. And the biggest hold back is from Anya Taylor-Joy, who is supposedly not fond of the time she would need to put in again. This update comes to us following a rumor back in January that the movie is being pushed back again… and possibly heading to an October premiere on Hulu. But now it seems there is a chance the movie could be sucked up into the Disney merger and be released onto the upcoming streaming service Disney+.
But like all things regarding THE NEW MUTANTS, this is just speculation at this time. If the movie ever gets released, it will introduce
a diverse cadre of teens learning to cope with their superpowers. These new mutants find themselves held in a secret facility against their will and must battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past.
THE NEW MUTANTS is directed by Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS) from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Knate Lee based on the comic series by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod. Simon Kinberg, Karen Rosenfelt, and Lauren Shuler Donner produced the movie which stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Henry Zaga, Blu Hunt, and Alice Braga. As you can imagine no one on this planet Earth has any f*cking idea when THE NEW MUTANTS will be released. But, you know, we'll pass along word once we hear anything. As always.
