It's been a hell of a long road for THE NEW MUTANTS; The film entered production close to three years ago, but its release was delayed on multiple occasions as rumours of reshoots and studio dissatisfaction were frequent. For a while there, it seemed like THE NEW MUTANTS would be shelved entirely, but after Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, the film received a new release date and interest in the film was renewed with a great new trailer.
THE NEW MUTANTS is set in an isolated hospital where a group of young mutants is being held for psychiatric monitoring. When strange occurrences begin to take place, both their new mutant abilities and their friendships will be tested as they battle to try and make it out alive. The film's official Twitter page has released a new poster for the film, as well as a handful of new photos. Check them out below!
While speaking with Collider during the production of THE NEW MUTANTS back in 2017, director and co-writer Josh Boone revealed a few of the cinematic influences for the film. "I’d say biggest influences for this movie were [One Flew Over the] Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining and Dream Warriors," Boone said. "I do love Dream Warriors, I loved the first [Nightmare on Elm Street] as well, but this is very much a rubber reality horror movie for the first about 75% of the movie and then it becomes something else. It follows the logic of those early Wes Craven movies and all that."
