This is not a dream or fake news: today we are officially one month away from the release of THE NEW MUTANTS, a film that looked like it would never see the light of day. Filmed three years ago, THE NEW MUTANTS has had quite the road to the big screen but it's finally going to happen and we've been gifted a brand new TV spot to mark its release a month from today.
In the new spot called "Escape", we get a new look at some of the terror the superpowered protagonists are going to face, including their own demons. The film is set in a mental hospital with a group of misfit teenagers who don’t play well with each other. However, they will have to come together in order to survive their ordeal.
THE NEW MUTANTS has been plagued by delays that made it seem like the film would remain on the shelf. The first trailer made its debut back in October 2017 and since then many obstacles have stood in its way. From tales of reshoots to enduring the Disney/Fox merger, director Josh Boone confirmed back in December that the film would make its promised release date & the cut is his final cut of the film. One of the film's stars, Anya Taylor-Joy, also said the cast and director have seen that cut and all parties involved are pleased with the end result.
The film was inspired by “The Demon Bear Saga” storyline by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz. Charlie Heaton headlines the cast as Cannonball, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, and Henry Zaga as Sunspot. Blu Hunt also stars as Dani Moonstar alongside Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane. It has been confirmed that the film will be presented as Josh Boone intended with a more horror-influenced style that is a bit of a departure from other comic book adaptations.
I'm actually really looking forward to this one. The trailers and TV spots look solid and it seems like time is being put into the marketing rather than just dumping it and hoping for the best. There is some potential with this concept and I hope it's fully realized.
Will YOU be seeing THE NEW MUTANTS? The film FINALLY hits screens on April 3, 2020.
