Marvel’s Wolverine has proven to be a fan favorite across the board, chiefly as depicted in the X-Men cartoon series and the reinventive portrayal by Hugh Jackman over the course of seven movies (not including cameos). For the upcoming Deadpool 3, director Shawn Levy sought out to combine the two, working diligently to put the iconic blue and yellow on Jackman.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Shawn Levy said a lot of it came down to doing the most with what could be Jackman’s last go as Wolverine. “Like the rest of the world, I’ve waited two decades to see Wolverine in a whole movie with Deadpool, and I don’t know if this is our last shot at Wolverine on screen, so I was going to make goddamned sure we get the old yellow and blue just once, and that we get it right.”

To achieve the distinct look, Levy and his team went through numerous interpretations. “It also helps that I’m making this movie within the MCU, so I have access to an army of the nerdiest nerds available to a Marvel project.”
Back in July, Hugh Jackman posted a photo of himself in the Wolverine costume on social media. This only built buzz for both Jackman’s return and Deadpool 3 itself, in turn boosting the director’s confidence in his decision. “It seems global reaction to those costumes has been overwhelmingly positive, so all’s well that ends well.”

Now, when can we see Wolverine in his old school fatigues on the big screen? A lot has been going on with the release date of Deadpool 3. Not only did it shift from November 2024 to May of that year but a recent Disney calendar failed to list it among other titles due out in May and June (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Inside Out 2). With the SAG-AFTRA strike still boiling, it is certainly likely that Deadpool 3 will find its official release pushed back closer to its original date.

What do you think of Wolverine’s costume? Is it a good choice or should it be more distinct from the original look? Give us your thoughts below!
