We heard months ago that writer/director Rob Zombie’s new film The Munsters, an update of the classic sitcom, would star Jeff Daniel Phillips, Sheri Moon Zombie, Daniel Roebuck, Jorge Garcia, Cassandra “Elvira” Peterson, Sylvester McCoy, and Richard Brake. Zombie has since confirmed that Phillips is playing Herman Munster, with Moon Zombie as Lily Munster and Roebuck as Grandpa / The Count. While we’re still waiting to find out if Garcia, Elvira, and McCoy are actually in the movie, Zombie has gone ahead and made another confirmation: Richard Brake is in The Munsters, playing a character named Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang.
He even shared a picture of Brake on set, in character as Transylvania’s most popular mad scientist:
Referencing his roles in The Mandalorian, Batman Begins, and Thor: The Dark World, Brake had this to say about being cast in the film: “I’ve hung out with Stormtroopers, killed Batman’s parents and popped into the Marvel Universe. But this! This is a childhood dream come true. The Munsters!!! So excited to be a part of it.”
The original The Munsters ran for two seasons, from September 1964 to May 1966, and consisted of 70 episodes. (You can buy the complete series at THIS LINK.) The show
starred Fred Gwynne as Frankenstein’s monster and head-of-the-household Herman Munster; Yvonne De Carlo as his wife Lily Munster; Al Lewis as Lily’s father, Grandpa, the somewhat over-the-hill vampire Count Dracula who longs for the “good old days” in Transylvania; Beverley Owen (later replaced by Pat Priest) as their teenage niece Marilyn Munster, who was attractive by conventional standards but the “ugly duckling” of the family; and Butch Patrick as their werewolfish son Eddie Munster.
The picture of Richard Brake is the latest in a long line of behind-the-scenes Munsters images that have been shared by Zombie. He has previously shown us his director’s chair, the blueprint for an exact replica of the Munsters’ house, given us a look at costume designs for Herman and Lily Munster’s sleepwear, confirmed that horror host character Zombo will be in the movie, posted a picture of the wig the actor who plays Grandpa will be wearing, given an early look at the crafting of Herman’s head, shown off some of the wardrobe, shared pictures of some creature effects, showed the houses being built on Mockingbird Lane, updated on the construction of the Munsters Mansion, teased that Herman will be wearing the leather jacket he wears when racing in the Dragula roadster, give us a look at the actors in costume, and more.
A release date for The Munsters has not yet been announced, but it is expected to end up on the Peacock streaming service.
