Mortal Kombat 2: The Miz has been training hard just in case he’s cast as Johnny Cage

WWE’s The Miz really wants to play Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat 2, the follow-up to last year’s successful video game adaptation. In fact, he wants it so bad that he’s been training extra hard just in case he gets the call to play the fan-favorite character.

The final scene of 2021’s Mortal Kombat teased the introduction of Johnny Cage in the sequel and ever since that reveal, fans have been throwing out their favorites in regards to who should play the role. The Miz has been a name that fans have tossed around but a lot of the hype for the wrestler claiming the role has been generated by The Miz himself. During an interview with Looper last year, The Miz said that his drive to play the part came from frequently seeing his name associated with the Johnny Cage character on social media. Since then, he has received blessings from his peers, followers, and even Mortal Kombat’s co-creator, Ed Boon.

During a recent chat with ComicBook.com, The Miz said, “I have been working on my splits. I’ve been working on my kicks. As soon as I saw that Mortal Kombat was out and there was no Johnny Cage yet and my name was literally trending worldwide No.1, ‘We want Miz as Johnny Cage’, I was like, ‘if they want that to happen, I need to basically make sure that I am prepared and ready if that opportunity presents itself, then I will be ready and focused.”

You have to respect his dedication. The Miz’s wrestling persona certainly has Johnny Cage’s cocky streak so it’s not a stretch for him to take on the role. Also known as Mike Mizanin, The Miz’s career trajectory has been pretty fascinating. He made a name for himself on reality television as a member of the cast of MTV’s The Real World in 2001. The Miz transitioned into the world of wrestling when competing on the show Tough Enough. This led to him joining the WWE and he has remained one of the company’s most well-known characters ever since. The Miz won the WWE Championship twice, along with a plethora of other title belts. Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s PWI 500 list ranked him at NO. 1 back in 2011. In terms of acting, The Miz has also starred as action hero Jake Carter in The Marine 3-6 and he made an appearance as himself in the wrestling movies Fighting with My Family and The Main Event. 

This is a role that he really wants. When speaking on preparing for a potential call to do the sequel The Miz said, “I will do everything in my power to hopefully get that part if the opportunity presents itself. I have an immense work ethic, and whatever it takes, I will be there to try and do it. And if I don’t get it, that’s okay too. But I hope the person that does get it will put in the same amount of work and dedication and give the fans exactly what they want because I know what I want out of Johnny Cage. I really do.”
