The Mist is descending onto television

Whether or not you've been enjoying Scream: The TV Series, the Dimension company will soon be giving you a reason to fall on your knees and thank it. Thanks to the MTV series' success, the company is now developing a television program based on THE MIST, the Stephen King novella that was adapted into the 2007 film directed by Frank Darabont.

The show will be written by Christian Torpe, creator of the successful danish series Rita. Unfortunately Darabont is not currently involved with the project (TV is pretty much his unlucky charm), but that's no reason to write it off just yet.

Says Dimension and Weinstein Company co-chairman Bob Weinstein:

The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth. With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares.

It will be interesting to see how they expand the compact story into a longer-running episodic storyline. Presumably they can't keep everyone trapped inside that grocery store for multiple seasons, so maybe we'll get a chance to explore more of the world enveloped by the mist.

The Mist will tell an original story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town but contains limitless havoc. From psychological terrors to otherworldly creatures, the mist causes the town residents’ darkest demons to appear forcing them to battle the supernatural event and, more importantly, each other.

Details as foggy, but more on this story as it unfolds!
