The Millennium Falcon takes shape in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge aerial photos

Seeing as Star Wars took place a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, we're not likely to get to experience that world first hand; also, you know, they're movies, but Disney's upcoming Star Wars theme park might be the closest we get. Construction on Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge has been underway for well over two years, but the 14-acre attraction in Anaheim, California is set to open next summer and already looks most impressive.

A recent pair of new aerial photos show off how much progress has been made on Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and, if you look closely enough, you'll notice the familiar shape of the Millennium Falcon still under construction. A closer look at the Falcon also surfaced on Twitter.

This thing is going to be huge. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will be set on the planet Batuu, "a remote outpost on the galaxy’s edge was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes, but its prominence was bypassed by the rise of hyperspace travel. Now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, it has become a thriving port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and uncharted space. It’s also a convenient safe haven for those intent on avoiding the expanding reach of the First Order."

One of the several signature attractions of the park will put you in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon as you pilot the ship, fire blasters, and make the jump to hyperspace, all while completing a critical mission. It's also been said that how you perform on the mission will affect your experience with the rest of the park. You may earn extra galactic credits if you perform well, but if you return the Millennium Falcon in less than pristine condition, you may end on the list of a bounty hunter named Harko, which could spell trouble if you show your face at the local cantina. Speaking of the cantina, it also happens to be the first place at Disneyland which will be selling alcoholic beverages.

Visitors come to this notorious local watering hole to unwind, conduct shady business, and maybe even encounter a friend…or a foe. Run by an intriguing alien proprietor, Oga Garra, the cantina adheres to a strict code of conduct that tries to keep its unruly patrons in check. But with a history of being a smugglers’ safe haven and a popular stopping point for those seeking to avoid the authorities, you can bet that the cantina has a story or two to tell. Oga’s Cantina is the kind of establishment that attracts some of the most interesting and disreputable characters in the galaxy. And you never know when a stormtrooper or a familiar face will show up. Patrons of the cantina come from across the galaxy to sample the famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients using “otherworldly” methods, served in unique vessels. With choices for kids and libations for adults, the cantina will make for a great stop!

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open at Disneyland in summer 2019 and at Disney World in fall 2019.
