Last night, we shared a first look "spy video" of Keanu Reeves on the set of THE MATRIX 4… and he sure didn't look like the Neo we're familiar with from the previous three films. Now he has a beard and has ditched those black clothes in favor of lighter colors and blue jeans. Neo has gone through some changes since we last saw him. Which makes sense, since he seemed to be dead the last time we saw him.
Trinity also died, but that isn't stopping Carrie-Anne Moss from coming back in the new sequel, either. Jada Pinkett Smith is also reprising her role from the previous films, and the returning stars are joined by franchise newcomers Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris, Eréndira Ibarra, Jonathan Groff, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas.
You can add another newcomer to that list, as it has now been announced that Andrew Caldwell has joined the cast. Details on his character are being kept under wraps, which is the case for all of the new cast members. Caldwell's previous credits include HAUNT and the television series iZombie.
Lambert Wilson has said that his character from THE MATRIX RELOADED and THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, data smuggler The Merovingian, is meant to be in the film but he might not be able to reprise the role due to scheduling issues. It's not clear at this time whether or not those scheduling issues were worked out.
While Lana and Lilly Wachowski wrote and directed all of the previous MATRIX films together, Lilly Wachowski doesn't appear to be involved with this one. Lana Wachowski is directing this one solo, working from a screenplay she has written with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell.
Lana Wachowski is also producing the film with Grant Hill.
THE MATRIX 4 is set to reach theatres on May 21, 2021.
