The Marvels runtime rumored to be the shortest of any MCU movie

It’s not exactly a rule, but superhero movies typically clock in at two hours. However, the runtime of The Marvels is rumored to be the shortest of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, but runtime leaker Cryptic4KQual has claimed that The Marvels is currently sitting at 1 hour 38 minutes, which amounts to 1 hour 33 minutes without credits. That’s pretty damn short for an MCU movie. The scooper noted that this isn’t final, so those numbers could easily change by the time the movie hits theaters. While some may see this rumored runtime as a negative, I don’t quite see it that way. There’s something to be said for a tight 90-minute movie, especially if it doesn’t need more time to tell its story.

The previous shortest movies in the MCU still came in at a few minutes under the two-hour mark, with The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World both running 1 hour 52 minutes.

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta teased to Empire that family plays an important role in the movie. “Carol’s the oldest, the prodigal, then there’s the middle sister Monica, who Carol knew as a kid and promised she’d come back [to] but then never did,” DaCosta said. “All the switching stuff is great, but the thing I actually care about is how these two reconcile.” The director continued, “Kamala is the youngest, who hasn’t had the experience of living with this older sister but idolises her. Carol’s a bit jaded at the beginning of the film [but] Kamala reminds her how amazing she is.

In Marvel Studios’ The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” reads the official synopsis. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.

In addition to Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, The Marvels also stars Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. The Marvels will hit theaters on November 10th.
