Baby Yoda, The Mandalorian

Sure, STAR WARS is a fantastic tale of good vs. evil full of wonderful characters and action-packed battles, but if we're being honest, it's also about selling toys. Each new film or TV series offers Disney/Lucasfilm the opportunity for new action-figures, space-ships, and just about everything else they can think of. The Mandalorian, the first STAR WARS TV series to stream on Disney+, is no exception, but the one toy which everyone actually wants right now isn't available. You know I'm talking about Baby Yoda.

Don't sit there and tell me that Baby Yoda wouldn't make for a perfect plushie or Funko Pop, and while I'm certain that those products are in the pipeline, you shouldn't expect them just yet. While speaking on the red-carpet to ET Online, The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau revealed why there's no Baby Yoda toy already available.

I have to thank Disney and Lucasfilm, because the way the cat usually gets out of the bag with that stuff is merchandising and toy catalogs and things like that. So they really backed us up, because we really wanted to have it be that you had to watch it yourself, so that every time you watch the show, there are new twists and secrets that come out. That requires a lot of restraint from the people who are footing the bill, saying they’re gonna hold back on certain things so that the public doesn’t know ahead of time. Part of that was holding back on some of the merchandise and holding back on some of the characters.

Favreau is correct, most leaks of this nature do come from the merchandising side of thing, so I'm glad they were able to keep it a secret for as long as they did, but the cat, or Baby Yoda, is now out of the bag as Lucasfilm has begun sharing the adorable little critter on social media far and wide. And yes, I do know that this critter isn't actually a young Yoda, but as we don't know the name of his species at the moment, it will have to do for now. The third chapter of The Mandalorian will debut on Disney+ on November 22nd, but be sure to check out reviews of Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the series from our own Alex Maidy as well.
