The Mandalorian takes on two Trandoshans in new image from Disney+ series

Audiences finally got their first real look at The Mandalorian at the D23 Expo late last month, and it's safe to say that most of you are looking forward to quite a bit. The new series, which is set to debut on the Disney+ streaming service later this year, takes place after the fall of the Empire but before the emergence of the First Order as it the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Entertainment Weekly has released a new photo from The Mandalorian which features the title character taking on two Trandoshans. Check it out!

Although the makeup looks to be slightly altered, these are indeed Trandoshans, the same species as Bossk, the bounty hunter first seen in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. Series creator Jon Favreau has said that he's hoping to explore the darker, freakier side of STAR WARS in The Mandalorian. "I'm trying to evoke the aesthetics of not just the original trilogy but the first film. Not just the first film but the first act of the first film," Favreau explained. "What was it like on Tatooine? What was going on in that cantina? That has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love the idea of the darker, freakier side of Star Wars, the Mad Max aspect of Star Wars."

Starring Pedro Pascal as the titular bounty hunter, The Mandalorian also includes Giancarlo Esposito, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Taika Waititi, Ming-Na Wen, and Werner Herzog among its cast. The first episode of The Mandalorian will premiere when Disney+ launches on November 12, 2019.
