The Mandalorian: S3 – Recurring Characters Fans Can Expect

After literal years of waiting, fans of the incredibly popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian were gifted with the reveal that the show would be returning for its third season on March 1. Now, audiences had a chance to see Mando and a few of his other friends in the spin-off The Book of Boba Fett (also on Disney+) last year, but the tease wasn’t enough to keep fans satisfied.

Now, back for a third (and confirmed fourth) go around, viewers are beyond excited to see where Mando and Grogu will go and what kind of adventures they’re bound to get wrapped up in. That said, Mando and Grogu aren’t the only people in the vast, ever-expanding Star Wars universe that fans will be ecstatic to see – so which fan-favorite recurring characters will most likely show-up for more trouble?

Confirmed in Trailer

Greef Karga – played by Carl Weathers, Greef Karga has been around since the very beginning of The Mandalorian and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. When audiences last saw the character, Karga had just helped Mando repair the Razor Crest and helped him escape a group of TIE fighters. However, he also unknowingly had a worker who double-crossed him for Moff Gideon and placed a tracker on Mando’s ship. In the newly released trailer, Karga can be seen greeting Mando in extravagant clothing in a place that looks to be Nevarro where Karga still presumably resides as High Magistrate.

Peli Motto – just like Mando and Grogu, fans of the series were incredibly fortunate to get quite a bit of new action from Peli in The Book of Boba Fett last year. The skilled ship-repairer not only constructed a brand-new ship for Mando after the Razor Crest was destroyed, but she was the one who intercepted Grogu when he returned from Jedi training and was present for Mando and Grogu reuniting. Seeing as how Peli seems to be Mando’s life-long ship-repairer and Mando is always getting into situations where his ship will need repairing, it was no surprise for fans to see the lovable engineer in the season 3 trailer (saying the franchise’s most iconic quote for good measure).

The Armorer – another character that fans were lucky enough to get a glimpse of in The Book of Boba Fett, The Armorer has much more impact on Mando’s story than the characters listed above. Though not too much is known about her backstory, The Armorer seems to be the character that carries the weight of Mandalorian knowledge and practices on her shoulders – thus, when she inquired whether or not Mando had ever removed his helmet, she withdrew his title as a Mandalorian when he revealed that he had. There’s no doubt The Armorer will continue to have a massive impact on Mando’s future and will ultimately be the one to approve whether he becomes a Mandalorian again in the upcoming seasons.

Captain Carson Terra – a blink and you’ll miss it character, Captain Carson Terra isn’t as well established as any of the people listed above, but his presence in the trailer was one that fans definitely took notice of. Captain Terra appeared as an X-Wing pilot in an episode of The Mandalorian: Season 2 as well as having a brief cameo appearance in The Book of Boba Fett. While the character didn’t seem to have much of an impact on the story in either of his appearances, his ominous words warning of an impending threat in the trailer imply that he’ll probably have a larger role during this season.

Not Yet Seen But Confirmed

Moff Gideon – every hero needs a big-bad villain that never seems to go away despite how many times they lose – enter Moff Gideon. The antagonist of the entire series was beaten and taken into custody during the final episode of season 2, losing the DarkSaber to Mando and set to answer for his crimes against the galaxy. However, fans are too smart to fall for that and know that Gideon is also too smart to not make it out of his current pickle. Despite not making an appearance in the trailer, actor Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed that the character will absolutely be returning for season 3 and that audiences can expect the season to be “off the chain.”

Bo-Katan/Koska Reeves – the next characters on this list are the ones who were left with the task of returning Gideon to the New Republic – Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves. While the two seemed to part ways with Mando at the end of season 2 in agreement, the cliff-hanger of Mando still owning the DarkSaber is bound to be resolved in the upcoming season. After all, Bo-Katan still believes that she is the rightful ruler of Mandalore and that the possession of the DarkSaber will solidify that claim. Unfortunately, viewers know that the wielder of the DarkSaber must win the weapon in battle… which assuredly confirms an eventual stand-off between Bo-Katan and Mando.

Potential to Appear

Ahsoka – one of the most beloved characters in all of Star Wars lore made her first live-action appearance in season 2 and followed it up with a cameo in The Book of Boba Fett. Even though it seems as though Grogu has made his choice to forgo Jedi training in lieu of traveling the universe with Mando, viewers know that force-users are rarely left to their own devices. Therefore, Grogu will definitely need a little more guidance in the way of his Jedi-abilities and Ahsoka could be the perfect person for the job. After all, she is set to appear in her very own series on Disney+ later this year and a brief appearance would be a great way to build hype for the show.

Migs Mayfeld – honestly, who wouldn’t love to see another appearance by Bill Burr? The comedian/actor has had brief appearances in both seasons of The Mandalorian and has proven himself to be a worthy companion to Mando and Grogu over that amount of time. Luckily the convicted criminal’s future was left open-ended after his last adventure with Mando when Cara Dune (who will definitely not be making an appearance this season) told him that he would be proclaimed dead in order to hide his presence from the Empire and allow him to be a free man. While Mayfeld might be the type to retire and leave the fighting to everybody else, he might also feel like he owes Mando a few favors. Regardless, there’s no doubt that fans would be happy to see Mayfeld show up in the future.
