Prom horror film The Loved Ones is finally being released stateside!

Paramount Insurge has picked up the rights to release THE LOVED ONES in theaters this summer.  I have been hearing buzz about the Australian horror film since 2009 and have yet to see it, but when you are proclaiming it to be “SIXTEEN CANDLES meets THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE,” I am intrigued.

The trailers have been up on our site for a while now. They really want the main character, Lola, to be considered amongst the upper echelon of horror icons. Take a look.

This is the first feature for writer-director Sean Byrne.  The film stars Robin McLeavy, who has a recurring role on AMC’s HELL ON WHEELS and will be in the upcoming ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER.

Here’s the plot for the film.  Lola Stone asked Brent Mitchell to the prom, but Brent said no, and now he’s screwed. What happens when Lola doesn’t get what she wants? She enlists Daddy’s help to throw a prom of her own where she is queen and Brent is king, whether he likes it or not. THE LOVED ONES is what happens when puppy love goes horribly, violently wrong. Brent should have said yes.

Paramount is taking a cue from PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and will be releasing the film based on fan demand. From the official website you can enter to bring the movie to your local theater. From what I can tell, it would be worth the time to do it.
