If you've been hoping for a return of the Robinson family and the wacky space adventures they get caught up in, you're in luck. Last year Netflix came out on top in a competitive bidding war for the rights to a remake of Lost in Space, which Deadline is hearing that they've now given a 10-episode straight-to-series order.

The new series will of course be centered around the Robinson family as they are "forced to come together in a time of crisis. Stranded light years from their intended destination, they find themselves battling a strange new alien environment and also their own personal demons." Zack Estrin (Once Upon a Time) has come aboard as showrunner with Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (DRACULA UNTOLD)  executive producing the project along with Kevin Burns, Marc Helwig, and Neil Marshall, who is also expected to direct a few episodes of the series.

Netflix Vice President of Original Content Cindy Holland said:

The original series so deftly captured both drama and comedy, and that made it very appealing to a broad audience. The current creative team’s reimagining of the series for Netflix is sure to appeal to both fans who fondly remember the original and to create a new generation of enthusiasts around the world.

The Lost in Space remake is being eyed for a 2018 release. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be humming the Lost in Space theme song for the rest of the day.
