The Long Walk trailer: Mattie Do’s new horror movie reaches theatres this week

Back in 2012, Mattie Do, the first female filmmaker from Laos, brought the world the first Laotian horror movie with her feature directorial debut Chanthaly (which was also noted as being the first Laotian movie to screen outside of Southeast Asia). She followed that with the 2016 horror movie Dearest Sister, and now she has mixed ghosts and time travel together in her third film The Long Walk. (No, it doesn’t have anything to do with the Stephen King / Richard Bachman story.) Yellow Veil will be giving The Long Walk a theatrical release tomorrow, February 18th, with a VOD release to follow on March 1st. In anticipation of the film’s release, we have the trailer for The Long Walk embedded above.

In the UK, Lightbulb Film Distribution will be giving the film a Digital release on February 28th.

Do directed The Long Walk from a screenplay by her Chanthaly and Dearest Sister collaborator Christopher Larsen. The story centers on

an old Laotian hermit who discovers that the ghost of a road accident victim can transport him back in time fifty years to the moment of his mother’s painful death.

The film stars Yannawoutthi Chanthalungsy, Por Silatsa, Chanthamone Inoudome, Vilouna Phetmany, Noutnapha Soydara, and Vithaya Sombath.

According to IndieWire, The Long Walk is described as being “a deliberately paced story that burns with intensity and human emotion. It’s all at once a culturally rich ghost story, a grim near-future sci-fi, and mystery with life and death stakes that spans across decades.”

In addition to the films mentioned above, Do and Larsen also worked together to write a segment of the Shudder anthology series Creepshow.
