125 days and one giant budget ($250+million despite initially being cut down to $215 million) later, THE LONE RANGER is finally nearly finished shooting. I know it’s a bit crazy – after all that back and forth, all that budgetary wrestling, we’re going to see a new version of the classic Lone Ranger character on the screen through a lens that Depp hopes will shift public perception of Native Americans. Think it’ll work, or will Disney’s summer tentpole demands outweigh the new perspective Depp has sought to engender?
The fifth collaboration between Johnny Depp and director Gore Verbinski, THE LONE RANGER also stars Armie Hammer, William Fichtner, Helena Bonham Carter, Barry Pepper, and Tom Wilkinson and is currently set to ride into a theater near you on July 3rd, 2013. Here’s the bigger question: do you think there’ll be an audience for it?
Meanwhile, below you’ll find pictures from the shoot taken in the beautiful states of Utah, Colorado, and Arizona, as well as my own (relatively brief) home state of New Mexico.
In Bruckheimer’s own words: Almost done with filming of The Lone Ranger. 125 days of shooting seemed to fly by. We dealt with winds up to 70 mph, rain, snow, and even wildfires but nothing has stopped us from filming this incredible movie. The cast has been absolutely amazing and we could not have asked for a better crew. Everyone has been extremely dedicated in making this film a major success. We have a few more filming days back in California and then post-production goes into high gear. Before we know it, it will be July 3rd, 2013 and we can’t wait to share this incredible film with everyone.
