Although a sequel was being developed before THE LEGO MOVIE even hit theaters, it hasn't be clear if writers/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be involved with the planned movie. Deadline has learned the duo will return to write the script for THE LEGO MOVIE 2, however there's no word on if they'll also be directing the film. THE LEGO MOVIE animation supervisor Chris McKay was originally set to helm the sequel, but earlier this month it was reported he'll instead be behind the camera for THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE.
Will everything be awesome a second time with THE LEGO MOVIE 2? We'll have to wait and see, but Phil Lord and Chris Miller are a big reason why THE LEGO MOVIE worked so well, and I'm glad they'll at least be writing the script for the sequel. Warner Bros. has big future LEGO plans, and I'm hopeful the spin-offs and sequel will be just as fun and entertaining as the first film.
THE LEGO MOVIE 2 will open sometime in 2018.
