The Legend of Halloween: David Gordon Green’s kid-friendly Halloween book

The upcoming HALLOWEEN sequels HALLOWEEN KILLS and HALLOWEEN ENDS aren't the only HALLOWEEN-related projects we can expect to see from HALLOWEEN 2018 (watch it HERE) director David Gordon Green. Further Front Publishing has announced that they are teaming up with producers Malek Akkad and Ryan Freimann to craft a book called The Legend of Halloween – an illustrated adaptation of John Carpenter and Debra Hill's original HALLOWEEN screenplay (you can watch the original HALLOWEEN at THIS LINK), written by David Gordon Green and Onur Tukel. Tukel also did the illustrations.

Described as "the perfect treat for HALLOWEEN fans of (almost) all ages", The Legend of Halloween has the following synopsis:

Michael Myers has been a naughty little boy. On Halloween night, he took a knife and did some very bad things. Luckily, he was caught and locked away in Smith's Grove Sanitarium. Dr. Loomis was determined to keep him institutionalized for the rest of his life. Dr. Loomis knew what was behind Michael's vacant stare… it was evil…purely and simply evil. Years later, Michael escapes and makes his way back to Haddonfield -the night HE came home – for some more mischief and mayhem. What is it about Halloween that drives this young man to kill? We might never know.

Through eerie rhymes and quirky illustrations emulating the unsettling nature of the classic horror journey, Green and Tukel craft a reimagined telling of the beloved source material for longtime fans and newcomers to the franchise.

Green implied that this book is a good way for him to be able to tell his nine-year-old twin sons the story of HALLOWEEN, so if you're a horror fan who's wanting to share HALLOWEEN fun with your kids but feel they're too young to watch the movies, it sounds like The Legend of Halloween is what you're looking for.

Green said,

Joining this iconic franchise has been one of the most fulfilling artistic endeavors of my career. With this new chapter, we hope to share our own love for HALLOWEEN with a new generation of horror fanatics."

Tukel added,

I saw the original HALLOWEEN when I was about nine years old and it scared the wits out of me. I've seen it about fifty times since then and it continues to be my favorite horror film. The mask, the music, the indelible characters, the monologues of pure evil – to me it's cinematic perfection. Collaborating with David on a children's book adaptation of HALLOWEEN has been demented and surreal, kind of like being simultaneously possessed by Dr. Seuss, Shel Silverstein and the demon Pazuzu."

Akkad provided the following statement:

The Legend of Halloween is a fun take on what has now become one of the most iconic films in cinematic history, John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN. The fans of these films have always been the driving force of the franchise, and I hope that they will appreciate this new book as much I do. It is fun for all generations of HALLOWEEN fans, young and old."

Freimann said,

We are so excited to bring our new book to HALLOWEEN fans, both new and old. The story of Michael Myers is one that continues to haunt fans worldwide across multiple generations, and The Legend of Halloween is no exception."

Pre-order information will be available soon. In the meantime, Entertainment Weekly got their hands on a few sample images from the book:
