More details drip from the Leatherface prequel

LEATHERFACE, the upcoming TEXAS CHAINSAW prequel from Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, the demented minds behind INSIDE, is currently in post-production. The French publication Allocine has published the first interview with the directors, who discussed a bit about this film's connection to the original film and the pretty OK 2006 prequel THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING:

In LEATHERFACE, we’re actually more connected to the Tobe Hooper’s TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE. The main difference with THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE: THE BEGINNING is that we go back further in the character’s origins, telling a part of its teenage years.

Basically, we could define our movie as a naturalist, brutal and disillusioned road-movie, with a quite new narrative structure in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre universe…

It's true that Leatherface was pretty much already fully into his murderous mode by the time THE BEGINNING, well, began. But I can't really think of anything less terrifying than a pimple-faced fledgling cannibal. Also, where the hell did his family get the money to afford to send him to an institution?

At this point, we're just going to have to put our faith in the directors, who have already proven that they have an eye for stylish and pulse-pounding horror. And that road trip concept is pretty sick. Horror road movies aren't exactly a booming subgenre, but with flicks like ROAD GAMES and BRIDE OF CHUCKY, it's pretty clear that they can be done and done well. Is it too much to ask that this new flick be a cross between INSIDE, BRIDE, and MAD MAX: FURY ROAD?

In LEATHERFACE:

A young nurse is kidnapped by a group of violent teens who escape from a mental hospital and take her on a road trip from hell. Pursued by an equally deranged lawman out for revenge, one of these teens is destined for tragedy and horrors that will destroy his mind, molding him into the monster we now call Leatherface.

LEATHERFACE, which stars Sam Coleman, Sam Strike, James Bloor, Jessica Madsen, Vanessa Grasse, and Stephen Dorff, should be gouging into cinemas in 2016.
