The world is a fairly grim place at the moment – what with a global pandemic continuing to alter the ways in which we live our lives – but soon a hero will rise again, and that hero is: Wonder Woman.
A new and boldly-colored promo image for WONDER WOMAN 1984 has arrived, featuring the Warrior Princess of Themyscira looking battle ready in her golden armor while wielding her trusty Lasso of Truth. In addition to the DC Trinity member looking like a total badass in the new pic, I also want to take a moment to admire the backdrop of the image. Not only is the color scheme supremely '80s, it's also giving me flashbacks to the early days of VHS, when promos for film studios were intensely psychedelic.
Here's the official synopsis for WONDER WOMAN 1984:
Fast forward to the 1980s as Wonder Woman’s next big screen adventure finds her facing an all-new foe: The Cheetah. Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ follow up to the Super Hero’s first outing, last summer’s record-breaking “Wonder Woman,” which took in $822 million at the worldwide box office. “Wonder Woman 1984” will also be helmed by acclaimed director Patty Jenkins, and star Gal Gadot in the title role.
As previously announced, the film also stars Kristen Wiig in the role of Dr. Barbara Minerva/Cheetah, as well as Pedro Pascal as the megalomaniacal Maxwell Lord. Chris Pine is also set to return as Steve Trevor, with Connie Nielsen reprising her role as Hippolyta and Robin Wright as Antiope.
Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Stephen Jones and Gal Gadot are producing the film. Rebecca Roven Oakley, Richard Suckle, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Walter Hamada are the executive producers.
Originally, WONDER WOMAN 1984 was scheduled to swoop into theaters on June 5, but the ongoing pandemic has seen the film moving to an August 14 release. For a time, it was speculated that WONDER WOMAN 1984 would be moved to POV platforms, though it's been confirmed that Diana will indeed be marching into theaters, ever ready to kick some ass and make a ton of money while doing it.
