In the history of comics there are few storylines as infamous as the Clone Saga. In the two year arc, it was revealed that there were numerous clones of the superhero including the man we thought had been Peter Parker. Eventually this led to the clone being renamed Ben Reilly. But, there were other elements to the story that have direct connections to where Marc Webb and team are taking us with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.
In the latest post on The Daily Bugle viral site, we have this post:
Manhattan’s Empire State University announced a new class for the 2014 fall semester in advanced biogenetics that will actually require the successful cloning of a living creature. Introduction to Live Cloning, taught by noted geneticist Professor Miles Warren, is the first class of its kind anywhere in the world.
Miles Warren is the name of the biology professor to Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. After Gwen’s death in the comic books, Warren becomes The Jackal and clones both Gwen and Peter, once he learns Peter is Spider-man. Eventually, the Spider-man clones work together. Warren eventually is cloned as the villain Carrion. Hijinks ensue.
Whether or not THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 begins the death of Gwen Stacy storyline that has been rumored since filming began, the continued population of the movie world with more characters from the comics shows that there is still a lot of material to mine for future films and spin-offs. I mean, if they do introduce Ben Reilly as a character, could that mean a potential Scarlet Spider spin-offf franchise?
THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters on May 2, 2014.
