The Last Voyage of the Demeter Interviews: Corey Hawkins and Javier Botet

If you’re a fan of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, you know the name Demeter. As conveyed in the classic novel, the ship was the unfortunate vessel used to transport Dracula’s casket from Transylvania to London, and was depicted through a chapter called “The Captain’s Log”. In movies, the fate of the Demeter was usually only depicted in passing, but now Universal has made an entire feature film about this blood soaked journey, sporting a strong cast headed by Corey Hawkins, as a doctor who joins the unfortunate crew.

Today on Joblo.com, our very own Jessica Dwyer, a self-confessed Dracula superfan (check out her interview with Nicolas Cage for Renfield) sits down with the always terrific Corey Hawkins, as he talks about the movie’s insane setting as well as his character and the history surrounding him.  Corey also goes into the details of the film of how different Dracula is in this movie, and how his character is a doctor and believer in science where as Dracula is a supernatural character and much, much more!

We also sat down with Javier Botet who portrays Dracula in the movie as he talks this much more beastly version of the character and what makes this version different from other films that feature Dracula.  He also goes into the physical challenge of playing Dracula with the effects, makeup, the rain, etc. and more!

To note, these two interviews were recorded prior to the SAG/AFTRA strike way back in June. Keep an eye out for Jessica’s Last Voyage of the Demeter review once embargo breaks!
