The Last O.G. canceled after four seasons at TBS

TBS has opted to not move ahead with a fifth season of the Tracy Morgan comedy series The Last O.G. The move isn’t entirely surprising as it was announced yesterday that Warner Bros. Discovery is pausing on scripted development at TNT and TBS following their merger.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the decision to cancel the series was actually made months ago after the conclusion of the fourth season back in December. In addition to the scripted development decision, The Last O.G. also hit a string of series lows in the ratings in season four, which marked the show’s first without Tiffany Haddish.

The road to the small screen was a long one for The Last O.G. The series marked Tracy Morgan’s first role since the 2014 crash that left him in a coma and with several broken bones. The show was originally developed at FX in 2016 before moving to TBS with a straight-to-series order. The show also had a new showrunner every season, which can be a sign that things are a little unorganized behind the scenes. Owen Smith replaced Keenen Ivory Wayans and Wayans replaced Saladin Patterson, who stepped in for creator John Carcieri in season two.

The Last O.G. followed Tracy Morgan’s Tray Barker, who is released for good behavior after serving 15 years in prison. When he returns to Brooklyn, he finds that his old neighborhood has changed and his ex-girlfriend is raising their children with another man. In addition to Morgan, Tiffany Haddish starred in the show for the first three seasons and the cast also included Allen Maldonado, Ryan Gaul, Taylor Christian Mosby, Dante Hoagland, and Cedric the Entertainer.
