The Last Matinee: Uruguayan slasher sets a killer loose in a theatre

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Dark Star Pictures and Bloody Disgusting are teaming up to bring writer/director Maxi Contenti's Uruguayan horror film The Last Matinee to North America. The companies are planning an early summer theatrical release for the film, with a Digital and DVD release to follow in August.

In The Last Matinee

the audience attending the last showing of a horror film in a small downtown cinema are terrorized by a murderer who begins to pick them off, one by one. The only person to notice that something strange is going on is the projectionist’s daughter.

The film stars Luciana Grasso, Ricardo Islas, Julieta Spinelli, Franco Duran, and Pedro Duarte.

Contenti had this to say about the distribution deal:

I’m very happy to be part of the Dark Star Pictures roster, and super excited to present my movie to the North American audiences.  I hope they'll enjoy the blood dripping screenings of The Last Matinee."

Reviews of this one have referred to it as a tribute to giallos and slashers, so it sounds like something I definitely need to check out.

Dark Star and Bloody Digusting recently worked together on the release of Honeydew.
