Last year, writer/director Joachim Hedén brought us the survival thriller Breaking Surface (watch it HERE), about a woman struggling to save her sister, who was trapped underwater by a rockslide in the icy waters of Norway. Now Hedén is in production on another thriller about diving – but this time around, the threat to the divers are sharks. Filming in Belgium, the shark thriller may or may not end up being called The Last Breath. The Wreck has also come up as a potential title. But whatever the title happens to be, the first image from the film has been unveiled online and you can check it out at the bottom of this article.
According to Deadline, The Last Breath – I’m just going to keep calling it that for now – has been written by Nick Saltrese (Prayer Before Dawn). The story centers on
five college friends who go scuba diving into a recently uncovered WWII shipwreck in the British Virgin Islands, where they find themselves trapped by great white sharks.
The cast includes Jack Parr (Peaky Blinders), Kim Spearman (As I Am), newcomer Erin Mullen, and Julian Sands (Warlock).
Andrew Prendergast of Picaro Films receives a “story by” credit on the IMDb page for The Last Breath, and is producing the film with Chris Reed of Freebie Films. Funding was provided by Orogen Entertainment, Anamorphic Media, and Filmgate. Umedia is co-producing. Will Machin, Sam Parker, and Michael Yates of Metro, Blair Ward, Anders Erdén, and Eric Harbert of Orogen, Sara Shaak and Matt Lyons of Anamorphic, and Bastien Sirodot and Cloé Garbay of Umedia serve as executive producers.
I enjoyed Breaking Surface, so I look forward to seeing what Joachim Hedén does with the shark thriller set-up on The Last Breath / The Wreck / whatever this movie is called.
